Since its incorporation, the Institute has expanded from its initial clinical locations in Kingston to eight academic health centers, three community outreach programs and business offices throughout Ulster, Orange and Dutchess Counties. It has correspondingly extended its primary care focus beyond family practice to include the full-time presence in the specialties of obstetrics, gynecology, internal medicine, gastroenterology, pulmonology, critical care medicine, pediatric neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, podiatry and dental services. Part-time specialty services are also provided on site in adult neurology, minor surgery, pediatric cardiology, developmental disabilities and others. In 1983, the first year of operation, the Institute employed 20 staff members. This number has steadily increased over the 22-year history to a current staff complement of over 300 professionals and support staff.
