Faculty Development Program
in Urban Primary Care
This program is made available to staff at hospitals and healthcare organizations.
The faculty development program is designed to improve the leadership and teaching skills of health professionals by focusing on those aspects of education and administration that are especially relevant to health professionals who choose to practice in medically underserved communities.
Our program has been directed since its inception by James Deary III, Ed.D., vice president for advanced professional development and director of faculty and organizational development. In existence since 1983, it is the longest-running such program in the U.S.
Available Workshop and seminar topics. Each year a selection from a broad array of workshops is offered.
To date, family practitioners and pediatricians from 20 of the family practice residency training programs in the New York tri-state area and, more recently, from nurse practitioner, midwife, and physician assistant programs have participated. Each participant completes a structured curriculum of workshops, seminars, and practice teaching in family practice and pediatric training sites. More than 250 physicians have participated in the program, which has helped to improve the quality of family practice teaching programs, as well as increase the number of physicians who teach and administer family practice in the New York City area.
