Dr. Kitson is responsible for quality improvement activities at all Institute health centers. He chairs the Institute's Clinical Directors Group Quality Committee, the Health and Wellness Workgroup and provides clinical oversight for the Institute's Electronic Patient Outreach team. He has also lectured across the country on the implementation of electronic health records, and the impact of decision supports on quality improvement.
Dr. Kitson graduated from the BS/MD combined program at Howard University. He completed the family practice residency program in social medicine at Montefiore Hospital in 1992 and in the same year joined the Institute. He has served as medical director and associate residency director at Bronx-Lebanon Family Practice, and medical director of ABC Health Plan, when the Institute operated those programs. In 2000 he became director of continuous quality improvement, and since 2004 he has been vice president for quality improvement. He has also most recently served in 2009 and 2010 as a federal reviewer and review committee chair under the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT, Dept. of Health and Human Services.
Dr. Kitson practices as an HIV specialist and family physician at Urban Horizons Family Health Center.
